Press Release: Miami Varsity Esports 2017-2018 Tryouts

After a successful first year in which our teams placed as high as the top 8 in TESPA competition, the Miami University Varsity Esports Program-- the first Division 1 Varsity Esports Team-- is proud to announce tryouts for our Hearthstone, League of Legends and Overwatch Varsity teams during the 2017-2018 fall season. Tryouts will begin on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 6 pm in Laws Hall room 201. Everyone wishing to tryout MUST attend this session.

In order to try out, you must:

  1. Be an enrolled Miami student in good standing (first years welcome!)
  2. Have an in-game account for the specific game(s) you wish to try out for
  3. Be present at the initial meeting, or make contact with Phill Alexander (alexanp3@miamioh.edu) before that meeting to make other arrangements
  4. Have a GPA of at least 2.0 (if you have been at Miami for at least one semester)

Tryout matches will be held during that first week of September, 2017, with announcement of team rosters on the Varsity Esports Website (redhawkesports.com) on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.

Hearthstone players are recommended to have hit rank 5 on the ladder. League of Legends players are required to have a minimum rank of Diamond V in Solo Queue or Diamond III in Flex Queue in order to tryout for the varsity team.

If you have questions about tryouts or about the program, please contact Phill Alexander (alexanp3@miamioh.edu) or Chad Reynolds (reynolcc@miamioh.edu).
